Building a healthy future includes caring for our financial well-being and building strong communities. The Financial Wellness Moai is a free, two-part workshop series designed for Parkland and Spanaway residents who want to strengthen their money management skills and learn how to prepare for homeownership through Habitat for Humanity.

Guided by an Accredited Financial Counselor, this series creates a supportive, judgment-free space to learn, ask questions, and connect with neighbors who share similar goals.

What to Expect:

  1. Workshop 1: Building Strong CreditLearn the fundamentals of credit, why it matters, and practical tools to help you build and strengthen your credit over time.
  2. Workshop 2: Understanding Your Credit & Next StepsParticipants will have the opportunity to access their actual FICO scores and receive personalized guidance on how to improve their credit as part of the home-buying journey with Habitat for Humanity.

Together, these workshops are designed to help residents take confident, informed steps toward purchasing homes in the communities they already call home.

What Is a Moai?

Moai is a social support group formed around a shared purpose. Originating in Okinawa, Japan, the word Moai means “meeting for a common purpose.” Research shows that these support systems play a key role in the longevity and well-being of Okinawan communities, which are among the longest-living populations in the world.

In Blue Zones Project communities, Moais help people build lasting connections while supporting one another’s goals—whether social, financial, health-related, or beyond.

Additional Details:

  1. Free to attend + open to all ages
  2. Each workshop lasts approximately 2 hours
  3. Light meals and refreshments provided for attendees
  4. Kids Corner with Blue Zones-inspired activities for youth, making it easier for caregivers to participate
  5. These workshops are designed to break the stigma around talking about finances by creating a welcoming, supportive learning environment

Attendance at both workshops is highly encouraged to get the full benefit of the series. Space is limited for each session, so early registration is strongly recommended.
