Travel Abroad with Habitat
Habitat’s work starts here in Pierce County, but it also reaches around the world.
Through Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village program, volunteers have the opportunity to serve alongside Habitat partners in other countries while learning about housing, culture, community, and connection in a deeper way.
Global Village trips are about more than building. Each trip offers a meaningful opportunity to support Habitat’s work internationally, experience a new culture, and be part of something that can leave a lasting impact on both the community you visit and the way you see the world when you return home.

How does a trip come together?
When you join a Global Village trip with Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity, you will travel with a team of volunteers, often from the Pacific Northwest, who are committed to serving and learning together.
Trips are coordinated through Habitat for Humanity International and hosted by local Habitat affiliates in the country where we serve. Each destination is carefully reviewed, and teams receive guidance before and during the trip to help them feel prepared.
Fanny Castro, Philanthropy Manager at Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity, directs the Global Village program locally. This includes planning upcoming trip opportunities, supporting interested volunteers, recruiting team members, coordinating payment timelines, communicating important trip details, and making sure participants feel informed before they travel.
While in-country, volunteers work alongside Fanny, local Habitat staff, community members, and partner families. Each trip looks a little different, but volunteers can expect a mix of hands-on service, cultural learning, team connection, and meaningful reflection.
These trips may only last a week or two, but the experience can stay with you long after you return home. Global Village is an opportunity to build, learn, serve, and come home with a deeper understanding of Habitat’s mission around the world.

Corporate Global Village Trips
Global Village trips can also be a meaningful opportunity for companies, employee groups, and workplace teams to serve together beyond Pierce County.
A corporate Global Village trip allows your team to partner with Habitat for Humanity internationally while building connections, strengthening teamwork, and engaging in service that supports safe and affordable housing around the world. These trips offer employees a chance to step outside their day-to-day roles, learn from a new community, and return with a deeper understanding of Habitat’s global mission.
Each corporate trip is coordinated in partnership with Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity, Habitat for Humanity International, and the local Habitat affiliate in the host country. Fanny Castro, Philanthropy Manager at Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity, works with corporate partners to explore trip options, discuss team size, timelines, payment details, and what to expect before traveling, and will be in the country working alongside your team.
Corporate Global Village trips can be a powerful way to bring your organization’s values to life through hands-on service, cultural learning, and shared impact.
