40 Stories from 40 Years: Home Sweet Home

Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat is celebrating 40 years in a delicious new way! We’ve partnered up for a special anniversary treat… and it just so happens to be ice cream! 

Bliss Ice Cream and Tacoma Habitat have teamed up to craft a new flavor called Home Sweet Home. With every scoop you buy in October only, $0.50 is donated to Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat to help provide safe and stable homes for families in our community. What a tasty way to give back!  

Home Sweet Home is rich and creamy, combining sweet-and-salty peanut brittle from locally owned Mama’s Brittle with ribbons of chocolate swirls, an irresistible blend that delivers the perfect burst of flavor in every bite.  

The peanut brittle is an ode to Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States who grew up on his family’s peanut farm in Plains, Georgia. After his presidency and looking for ways to live out his values, President Carter and his wife Rosalyn joined a Habitat for Humanity build in Americus, Georgia. The Carters became dedicated advocates, energetic fundraisers, and active volunteers on construction sites, inspiring thousands of volunteers and celebrities and helping Habitat for Humanity gain international recognition for its mission. Since 1984, the annual Carter Work Project has involved 108,100 volunteers in building 4,447 homes in 14 countries around the world. 

Jimmy Carter passed away on December 29, 2024, but his dedication to Habitat’s mission continues to inspire. Carter would have celebrated his 101st birthday on October 1.
