A Beautiful Home Dedication for Alec and Sydni

As parents to four energetic children ages 3 to 7, Alec and Sydni have their hands full. Alec works as an environmental technician. Sydni is a stay-at-home mom with a background in nursing who hopes to pursue a career in sonography once all of the children are in school.

Having a safe and comfortable home for their children was a priority for Alec and Sydni, but in a skyrocketing economy, the dream of homeownership felt out of reach.

Living in an apartment near the Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat Store in Puyallup, Sydni said she would frequently go to the Store to find furniture deals and household essentials. One day, searching for lightbulbs, she came across a flyer for affordable homeownership opportunities with Habitat for Humanity. She then saw a Facebook advertisement.

With the seed of homeownership planted in their minds, Alec and Sydni decided to attend a Homeowner Orientation. They were selected for the program and began their 100 hours of sweat equity. Through their sweat equity hours, they built a community and friendships with Habitat’s site managers and other homeowners completing their own hours.

“It was great!” said Sydni. “I learned a lot, and created a community, and became close to the people on site, like Meredith and both of the Nicks. Plus it gave me a break from the kids.” Sydni said she enjoyed working in home renovation the most because she found it calming to paint and caulk.

On July 26, just days away from closing on the purchase of their new home, a small group gathered to celebrate with Alec and Sydni at their home dedication.

“We are so elated!” Alec said to the friends and Habitat staff in attendance. “We are so grateful to have this opportunity.”

Their children eagerly ran upstairs in their new home, excited to show off their bright, sunlit bedrooms with spacious closets perfect for games of hide-and-seek. Full of energy, they were the heart of the dedication, happily munching on cupcakes and cookies and proudly revealing their new hiding spot under the bathroom sink.

For Alec and Sydni’s children, this was more than just a house – it is their forever home, a place where they will drift off to bedtime stories, share family dinners, and create lasting memories.
