People in our community and all over the world partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With our help, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.
Habitat is a hand up, not a handout. In addition to making a minimal down payment and affordable mortgage payments, homeowner families are required to commit to at least 200 hours of ‘sweat equity’ building their own home and the homes of other Habitat families.
Habitat for Humanity International was founded on the conviction that every man, woman, and child should have a decent, affordable, and durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all. We are part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God's love into action by building homes, communities, and hope. We are dedicated to eliminating substandard housing by constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.
