Donor Advised Funds

Donor Advised Funds (DAF) are charitable savings accounts set up with a financial institution or community foundation and funded by a variety of assets, which may provide tax relief. Over time, you can use the fund to earmark charitable gifts to organizations like Tacoma Habitat.

To make a gift from your DAF, click here to tell us about your donation and navigate to your fund advisor. Using our tools to recommend a gift from your DAF allows us to properly credit and thank you when your gift arrives. Please note that our tools integrate directly with your DAF provider, creating a seamless end-to-end giving experience.

Gifts of Stock | Securities

Publicly traded securities are easy to give and offer great tax advantages. You can transfer ownership of stock, bonds or mutual funds to Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity to help us build homes by clicking here.

The best stocks to use for charitable giving are those that have increased greatly in value, particularly those producing a low yield. If you have held them for more than one year, you will pay no capital gains tax on the transaction, and you can deduct the full fair market value.

IRA Distributions

If you have an IRA and are at least 70 and half years old, you could make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) to Tacoma Habitat, which would reduce your taxable income and create affordable housing solutions in our community.

To initiate a gift from your IRA, please click here so we can look out for your donation and send you a receipt when your gift arrives.

You can also watch this video for more information on qualified charitable distributions.

Build a Legacy | Planned Giving

No matter your stage in life, it is never too early (or late) to protect your assets and provide peace of mind for your loved ones by creating a will. Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity is delighted to offer a free, no-strings-attached service, which invites you to create an estate plan courtesy of our partnership with FreeWill. This user-friendly online tool allows you to establish a legally-binding will in under 30 minutes and also makes it easier than ever to join our Legacy Society with a lasting commitment to affordable housing.

In addition to a will, you may have non-probate assets you need to protect and plan for (examples: IRAs, 401(k)s, pensions, life insurance policies, and certain bank and brokerage accounts). Use this tool to set beneficiaries for these special assets, which is also available at no-cost to you. If beneficiaries are properly set, ownership can transfer faster than your other assets that must go through probate

If you have already made arrangements for Tacoma Habitat in your estate plan, please let us know by completing this form. Understanding your intentions not only helps us plan for a stronger future, but also provides an opportunity to celebrate your generosity today—including membership to our Legacy Society.

Many companies match their employees’ charitable donations. Check with your boss or human resources department to see if your company has a matching program. Most often, all you need to do is complete a form, send it to us for verification and wait to see your impact on Habitat double.

More often larger employers are establishing “dollars for doers” programs, whereby the company will match their employees’ volunteer hours with a monetary donation to the charitable organization. If your company has such a program, don’t forget to submit your paperwork following your volunteer shift.

The Difference You Make

"When you’re desperate or in need, you don’t always feel that there’s a lot of hope. Tell donors that they are providing hope and an opportunity for people to have a life that they probably wouldn’t have imagined."
