SUMMARY:Pathways to Homeownership
DESCRIPTION:Join Tacoma Habitat for a free\, 5-part workshop series centered around readiness for buying a home. The class will be held over Zoom from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM daily\, starting Monday 11/1 and continuing through Friday 11/5. Attendance at all 5 sessions is mandatory.  \nThe series will cover the importance of a monthly spending plan\, how to get out of debt\, strategies to save for homeownership\, and the Washington State First-Time Home Buyer’s Class which is required in order to access State-funded down payment assistance programs. \nThe Pathways to Homeownership series is open the public\, whether you plan to buy through Habitat for Humanity or on the open market. \nPre-registration is required. Zoom link will be provided with workshop confirmation. \n

DESCRIPTION:Interested in volunteering with Tacoma Habitat? \nCurrently\, only Store volunteer opportunities are available.  \nAll new Store volunteers must attend a virtual New Volunteer Orientation prior to their first shift. To register for orientation and get the Zoom link\, please email us. \nDuring the orientation\, you will be asked to provide your email address and birth date for background check. Following a successful background check\, you will have access to VolunteerHub\, our scheduling software\, and you will be able to schedule yourself for volunteers shifts. \nPlease note: \n\nHabitat is unable to sign off on court-ordered community service hours.\nAll volunteers must be 16 or older.\n\n\n\nWe hope to offer Construction volunteer opportunities by summer of 2021.

SUMMARY:Women Build: Drywall
DESCRIPTION:Join Women Build for an encore of our popular workshop on drywall. In this session\, Caitie will demonstrate different techniques for repairing drywall\, including sanding and techniques for patching holes or damage. \nClick here to register for this free\, online workshop. While this session was designed with women in mind\, all are welcome to attend. \n  \nWomen Build Workshops are sponsored by our friends at:\n \n\n  \nMeet the instructor: Caitie\nAfter graduating from University of Mary Washington in Virginia with a degree in biology\, Caitie served two AmeriCorps terms as a Construction Site Coordinator with Habitat for Humanity\, first in Delaware then in Tacoma. Following her AmeriCorps term in Tacoma\, Caitie became a construction trainer for Goodwill’s YouthBuild program. Now living on the east coast\, Caitie works as a Construction Site Manager for a Habitat affiliate in North Carolina. \nCaitie continues volunteering with Women Build because she is passionate about teaching and empowering individuals\, especially women and young people. She believes that creating a safe environment to learn\, ask questions\, and make mistakes helps people develop new skills as well as the confidence to use them.
