DESCRIPTION:Interested in volunteering with Tacoma Habitat? \nCurrently\, only Store volunteer opportunities are available.  \nAll new Store volunteers must attend a virtual New Volunteer Orientation prior to their first shift. To register for orientation and get the Zoom link\, please email us. \nDuring the orientation\, you will be asked to provide your email address and birth date for background check. Following a successful background check\, you will have access to VolunteerHub\, our scheduling software\, and you will be able to schedule yourself for volunteers shifts. \nPlease note: \n\nHabitat is unable to sign off on court-ordered community service hours.\nAll volunteers must be 16 or older.\n\n\n\nWe hope to offer Construction volunteer opportunities by summer of 2021.

SUMMARY:Women Build: Porches & Decks
DESCRIPTION:Join Women Build for a new workshop centered around outdoor living space. Instructor Caitie will demonstrate general techniques for building a deck or porch. Learn the building codes you need to be aware of\, the differences between wood and synthetic deck boards\, how to stain and pressure wash\, and tips for maintaining your deck or porch once finished. \nClick here to register for this free\, online workshop. While this workshop was designed with women in mind\, all are welcome! \nWomen Build Workshops are sponsored by our friends at:\n \n\n  \nMeet the instructor: Caitie\nAfter graduating from University of Mary Washington in Virginia with a degree in biology\, Caitie served two AmeriCorps terms as a Construction Site Coordinator with Habitat for Humanity\, first in Delaware then in Tacoma. Following her AmeriCorps term in Tacoma\, Caitie became a construction trainer for Goodwill’s YouthBuild program. Now living on the east coast\, Caitie works as a Construction Site Manager for a Habitat affiliate in North Carolina. \nCaitie continues volunteering with Women Build because she is passionate about teaching and empowering individuals\, especially women and young people. She believes that creating a safe environment to learn\, ask questions\, and make mistakes helps people develop new skills as well as the confidence to use them.

DESCRIPTION:Some take the Habitat Challenge to conquer fears; others to mark a milestone; some do it just for the bragging rights. Whatever the reason\, when you take the Challenge\, you’ll be 245′ above Tacoma with just one way down. \nA $50 registration fee holds your place on the ropes but in order to reach the roof\, each participant must raise a minimum of $1\,000 to benefit Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity. We make it easy with online tools to help you promote your rappel\, collect donations and track your progress. \nBy going over the edge\, you help keep entry-level homeownership accessible for our neighbors and open the door to a family’s first home.
