DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with Habitat Connects\, Women Build is coordinating a series of hands-on workshops to help women develop basic home-repair skills. \nJoin us to learn all about drywall – different types of drywall\, how to install it\, how to patch both large and small holes\, and pro tips/techniques. The hands-on portion will consist of how to tape and mud a seam\, patch a hole\, countersinking screws\, and sanding. \nSpace is limited for this no-cost workshop\, and RSVPs are required. Doors open at 6:00 pm and film begins at 6:30 pm. \nIt’s pick-your-own-admission pricing\, with a suggested donation of $10 at the door. \nThis documentary follows designer-activists Emily Pilloton and Matthew Miller to the poorest county in in North Carolina where they help high school students transform both the community and their lives. The year-long\, full-scale design and build project does much more than just teach basic construction skills: it shows ten teenagers the power of design-thinking to re-invent not just their town but their own sense of what’s possible. \nA panel discussion will follow the film\, featuring local organizations working with youth to design and build a better future.
