Global Village Trips

Travel with Habitat

Habitat may work around the corner from you, but we also work around the world.

Our Global Village trips offer volunteers more than just the opportunity to swing a hammer. While every Global Village trip is different, you can expect to gain once-in-a-lifetime experiences and memories.

Your trip may only be a week or two long, but your contributions can be life-changing – both for those in the communities where you volunteer and for yourself once you get home.

How does a trip come together?

When you choose to a Global Village trip with Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity, you will travel with 8-15 other people who are likely to be local to the Pacific Northwest as well. Our trips are coordinated by volunteer trip leaders, trained by Habitat and experienced with international builds. Destinations are vetted through Habitat for Humanity International and are continuously monitored for safety.

Trip leaders will help you navigate the logistics of your experience both pre-trip and in-country, including things like accommodations and meals. During your trip, you will experience the host country’s culture, language and social practices while working alongside homeowners and volunteers of all backgrounds, races and religions.

As one experienced volunteer shared, “I always find that opening your heart to what you will get out of the trip is the most amazing thing.  It expands you in a way that I have not found repeated in other opportunities.”

What’s a Global Village trip like?

Cisco is an incredible partner to Habitat for Humanity. Enjoy this look back at their first Global Village trip to Guatemala in the spring of 2017.

For more trip reflections from volunteers, visit our blog. Filter the posts using the Global Village category and you’ll read about trips to Colombia, Guatemala, Dominican Republic and Halifax.

All Global Village builds are suspended due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and there are currently no trips scheduled for 2023. Habitat for Humanity International hopes to re-open trips in 2024.
