Congratulations! You meet the qualifications to become a Habitat homeowner. Now what?
Submit ALL of the following to the Habitat office:
- Application form must be completed and signed by all adults (18 and older) who will be living in the Habitat house.
- $20 credit-check fee (one per household). Cash, check, or money order made out to "Habitat for Humanity"
- Copies of photo ID for all adults who will be living in the Habitat house.
- Copies of Social Security cards for all adults who will be living in the Habitat house.
A credit report will be pulled for the Applicant and Co-Applicants in the household, and a criminal background check will be pulled for all household members 13 years and older. Applicants who pass the credit check and criminal background check will receive an invitation to attend an application / financial review meeting.
Application / Financial Review Meeting
At this meeting you will learn more about the Habitat for Humanity program and our eligibility requirements. You will be given a Financial Review checklist and are asked to submit the requested documents within two weeks of attending the meeting. Once all financial documents have been submitted, Habitat staff will process the paperwork to determine household income. If you are declined due to financial instability, you will be notified and offered free credit coaching so that you may re-apply at a later date. Applicants who are determined to be able to afford a Habitat home will be contacted by a Habitat team member to set up a home visit.
Two Habitat staff members will set up a time to visit you at your current residence. This meeting is to allow Habitat staff to view your current living situation and to clarify any questions you have about the application process.
Applicants who have met all requirements will be recommended to the Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, who meet monthly. Board-approved applicants will be notified and begin the process of lot assignment and sweat equity.

NOTE: The entire application process may take 2 to 4 months to complete.
